Fight Metric PROOF that Shogun beat Machida

http://fightmetric.com/fights/Machida-Shogun.html
shogun landed 82 stikes that landed compared to machida's 42... u can go thru rd by rd and see that shogun landed the majority of the shots, the only really significant shots that machida landed were the knees to the body in the 1st rd and he landed another 1 or 2 later in the fight, but the damage that shogun did to machida's body and legs was overwhelming... for these judges to score the fight the way they did totally boggles my mind esp with no takedowns for machida, and when he threw punch combos, 90% of the punches were blocked, the stat sheet doesnt lie!!!! shogun IS the #1 lhw in the world today!!!!!|||Well I knew the judges were going to suck from the Bader vs Schafer. 2 of the judges ruled all three rounds for Bader when he clearly lost the second. Also the Gleison Tibau vs Josh Neer fight was a bad call. Sure Gleison Tibau got a lot of takedowns but Neer just stood right back up after almost every single one. Even when Tibau got Neer on the ground he couldn't do anything. Neer won that fight with ground defense and strikes.
The whole MMA scoring needs to be seriously reworked. There are too many of these bad calls by the judges. I wouldn't be surprised if White fixed the fight.|||

i agree... i wouldnt mind maybe seeing more judges score bouts (im not sure on that, the thought jus crossed my mind and i thought maybe having 5 judges instead of 3 could be a good idea), cecil ppls FIRED and hung publicly along with the other goons that judged the fights last night, and leg kicks, ESP DEVASTATING LEG KICKS, get more recognition in the judges eyes||||||I like Machida but I truly feel Shogun should of gotten that BELT! I was so disappointed with the decision do to the effort Shogun gave. I feel that Shogun still won even the early rounds and even after slowing down he was doing more than Machida.
Ricta123: hahahahahahahahahahahaha :) I love that!|||

"First of all what you need to understand is that from where the judges are sitting, we get to see things that the fans at home may miss. Mauricio Rua was being aggressive but it wasn't effective aggressiveness which is what we as the judges look for when scoring a fight. The way I saw it, Lyoto was landing the more cleaner and damaging strikes throughout the fight - if you take a look at the judging criteria clean strikes are valued more-so than the quantity of strikes landed. Although Rua threw a lot of low kicks they were not as damaging as Lyotos diverse attack in the earlier rounds which is why I scored the first three rounds for Machida. You have to keep in mind we always the favour the fighter who is trying to finish the fight, and leg kicks certainly don't do that."
"When both fighters are engaged in a striking match what I always look for is the fighter who is being judicious, picking his spots, being accurate and landing the cleaner strikes which ultimately is what Lyoto did more effectively than Rua. Lyoto made Shogun come after him, he determined where the fight took place which in my opinion constitutes as effective Octagon control. I recognize the fact that Rua did have a few takedown attempts during the course of the fight however Lyoto defended them all successfully which counts as effective grappling in his favour, where as ununsuccessful takedown attempts are not scored at all. Therefore going by that criteria, I believe Lyoto won the fight clearly. I'm just glad the other judges on the panel saw it the same way and I'm sure the fans who understand the technicalities of the sport agree with the decision too."

I dont agree with the outcome but theres certainly more going on than what we see.
I mean, if he doesnt give proper scoring points for the legkicks Shogun used all night then there goes 70% of the shots he had thrown. Not to mention constant backwards movement by Lyoto is considered octagon control? In my books its Shogun who is controlling Machida then.
I am still a big fan of Machida, and I dont think he deserves some of the bs some people are saying, but Shogun had that fight. They should really work on the whole scoring system, its just not fair. Takedowns dont score any points but Takedown defenses do. Wow.|||I like Machida too but yes Shogun did deserve that win! going backwards considered cage control? I see it as running away from the action like OSCAR DE LA HOYA did against Felix Tito Trinidad that caused him to LOSE his belt for RUNNING AWAY!|||The only conclusion i can make of it is that it was fixed somehow. For some reason and by who? Dunno, but seriously, a 5 year old could have scored that fight, it was pretty obvious(and as the stats you posted show) that Rua was winning and significantly outpointing Machida especially i the later rounds.
Ignorance can't really excuse this decision. If a huge majority of people all over the internet, at home watching the fight on tv, even the audience in the stands saw the fight and KNEW Rua won, don't think the judges saw something different than you, me or anyone else. They know who won.|||I wonder if Judges are allowed to place BETS!|||

I wonder if Judges are allowed to place BETS!

As long as its in their buddy's name. BTW, if I had the money lately(times are hard) I would have DEFINITLY put it on Machida, given lately he's been nothing but a rising star, where Rua except for the Liddell fight(chucks old people and the competition is muchbette than before, deal with it) looked like he might have been going over the hill because of injuries.
Those judges should be fired. There needs to be a review board OUTSIDE the state athletic comission for fights like this.|||Speaking of Fight Metric, they should use this system in the game for a post fight analysis. It really is more in depth than the system used in Fight Night 4
