You may already know of at 145
Gina Carano
Strikeforce Champion Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos
You may not know of, also at 145
Marloes Coenen
She may be Cyborg's first challenger. Link - http://www.mmafightgirls.com/category/433/cristiane-cyborg-santos
Watch the video.
At 125 & 130 some of my favorites.
Carina Damm
Molly "The Maulinator" Helsel
Here is a link to Molly's myspace. She has a good fight between her & Damm on her "About Me" section. I highly recommend it. http://www.myspace.com/maulinator
I'm not sure the following woman's weight, but I think it would be around the 145 mark. She hasn't had 1 fight yet, but instead has been training to fight for months now. News has it that I think she is ready to have her first fight soon & she would like to compete for Strikeforce. It could happen.
So let me be the first to introduce to you before her eventual debut. Some may know her as "Victoria" from WWF & WWE wrestling. Some may currently know her as "Tara" on TNA wrestling. But you will soon know her as Lisa Marie Varon. She's a favorite of mine. I've followed wrestling all my life, and I really enjoy cheering for the wrestlers who become fighters. I wish her the best of luck. Her myspace is below for more info. Update yourself please.
http://www.myspace.com/victoria_lisamarievaron
It should be noted that Lisa Marie Varon & Kim Couture are involved in a recent internet feud. I hope for a fight between the two soon.
You may or may not know of the rest of the Strikeforce roster.
Kim Couture (just learned right now that she was married to Randy Couture
Sarah Kaufman (just learned she is 135)
Miesha Tate just learned she is 135)
~I'm only familiar with Kim Couture myself. But I thought I would promote the others too.
Others I caught on youtube.
Rosie Sexton - I believe at 125
Tara LaRosa - Not sure on weight, but I think she may be a legend of sorts.
Keiko "Tama Chan" Tamai - I believe at 125 or 130
Kerry Vera - Not sure on weight. But interesting note, she's Brandon Vera's wife. And she is trying to come-up in the female ranks. She also won the 2007 season of "Fight Girls" on the Oxygen Channel. Just found out that she is fighting at 135 vs Kim Couture.
Just found this link as I'm typing now. So I will promote this fight to you all right now. A Fight set at 135. Kerry Vera vs. Kim Couture has been verbally agreed upon for Strikeforce. Link - http://www.sherdog.com/news/press_releases/Female-Couture-Vera-Bout-Agreed-for-Strikeforce-19897
This is interesting because UFC has a fight set for Randy Couture vs. Brandon Vera. Now their wives will fight around the same time too. It should be noted that Kim Couture & Randy have filed for divorce. But currently she is still his wife. This is very interesting. The link above also gives you alot of background for Kerry Vera & Kim Couture.
I also learned a bit more about Strikeforce & their women's division at the following links. For instance I know they have a 145 division, but I didn't know they also have a 135 division too. The following link also tells more about Kerry Vera's Strike force deal. And Strikeforce will hold two 8 women tournaments at 135 & 145 in early part of 2010. http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/vera-to-strikeforce-womens-tourneys-pushed-to-2010-19637
It also gives some more names on Strikeforce's roster that I did not know of.
At 135 for Strikeforce:
Hitomi Akano
Shayna Baszler
This is great news for me. I really like Molly Helsel, but I did not know of any previous 135 divisions on the main circuit or big leagues. Now that I have learned that Strikeforce has a 135 division, I now have some high hopes that Molly Helsel may be able to make it to the big leagues. She now has a chance.........to get into the Strikeforce 135 division. Before I thought 135 was just indy fed fights for women at 135 or below. But now that I know this, I have some hope for her. Molly Helsel has a fight in Niagra Falls, NY tonight at Raging Wolf V. Molly Helsel fights Alexis Davis in a 5 round Title fight for their Raging Wolf Flyweight Title. Molly Helsel's record is currently 7-7-1. So this fight is really a make it or break it fight for her chances. Lets go girl, you can do it!!! If she wins & becomes champion, my hopes for her just got brighter. Link - http://www.ragingwolf.com/index.php
And with all this hope, now that I know of the 135 division for Strikeforce. And since they have a 145 division Championship. I'm really thinking it is only a matter of time till they make a 135 Championship. Maybe the tournamnets in 2010 will have some involvement. And just an interesting thought on one of my personal favorites and I'm sure alot of people's favorite here too, Gina Carano. If Gina Carano can't beat Chris Cyborg for the 145 Championship, she could always drop down to 135 and make a run at what I think will be an eventual 135 Championship. Now that is interesting.
It really is nice to see Strikeforce grow as a company. Not just in the male division with Fedor & others. Not just with their TV deals with ShowTime & best of all, free cable CBS. It is cool that they're on CBS. Fights on CBS again! Yeah! But also the growth in their women divisions. Now they have a 145 Champion in Cyborg. They have big names like Gina Carano, Kim Couture, & now Kerry Vera & others. It is awsome to see female MMA getting the spotlight it has so long deserved.
I applaud STRIKEFORCE.
I hold STRIKEFORCE as the leader in the WORLD of FEMALE MMA.|||Hey nice effort but wheres Megumi Fuji? :)|||
Hey nice effort but wheres Megumi Fuji? :)
Well she's right there. I don't know her. So she is for you to mention. Thanks for making me aware of another fighter.
I need & want others to post other female fighters that I didn't name. And we can all go back & forth with them all. I can get to know more female fighters like Megumi Fuji. And EA can be schooled by the fans as to who is who in "feMMA". (Female MMA)
Now if you'll excuse me, I must go look up this Megumi Fuji. Please all others, please continue. Thank you. I want to know of other female fighters.|||I can give a horses behind about this to be quite frank with you but you have my support!|||
No you can't be frank with me. There's no need to post in this thread if you don't care about it. What's the point in posting just to say you don't care about it. Just don't post then. By the way, thanks for the support, but thats got to be the most negative support I've ever received.|||Back to business......
I can give a horses behind about this to be quite frank with you but you have my support!
Here is Megumi Fuji's myspace for any curious fans for further info on her.
Link - http://www.myspace.com/aaccmegu
She weighs in at 114 pounds according to Sherdog.com
First off, this is a new division to me. WoW didn't know there was anything less than 125 pounds.
Second of all, she is 18-0 accoring to Sherdog. No matter what weight, that is impressive.
Megumi Fuji is a dominate force at that lower weight division. I wonder if her divsion is considered 115?|||:) You take what you get and you keep on going! Just like you I can post where ever I want! Don't be angry just because Female Fighting is not doing anything. There is a reason UFC wants nothing to do with it...
Anyway :) :) I still support your idea even tho is pathetic! That's the point of being a community that you get to support those in it even if their ideas aren't worth anything! :) :) :) :)
Ok now let me be serious hehe! I can enjoy Female Fighting but it's not doing anything right now! I can care less if they make it or not like WNBA! PERFECT Example bro! :) :)|||Fuji's record is not really impressive man! Because her competition was probably awefull. I compare it to early boxers careers. They fight no ones and gather 40wins before facing competition.|||http://www.mmarising.com/news/2009072601.html
Here's a good starting point for learning about some of the names in women's MMA.|||Thanks TheSKSpecial! I appreciate that input!

Now to support feMMA.
I found a video of that fight and it was an amazing fight. Out of all the fights I've seen, it's easily in the top 5.

I believe in the first sentence of this thread I said that I've only been a fan of MMA for the last 2 months. And I knew about Carano vs Cyborg on the weekend it was held. I just finally found the video.
Your the one who doesn't know jack about female MMA. You think female MMA isn't doing anything, but it is on a fast rise of success these current months. And if you think that Carano vs. Cyborg is the only successful female fight, then it shows that you know nothing about female MMA. Both Carano & Cyborg had many major televised CBS fights that made both women a big name to get this fight between them in a main event. Don't forget it was Gina Carano's CBS EliteXC fights that made "Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg" possible. So female MMA was on a road of success before that event.
Check mate!|||Hehe well let's be clear on one thing! I don't know what you know and you don't know what I know. But I do know what you portray to know! got that? Lol read it as many times as possible until you catch it!
Anyway guy look, I have clearly said that Female Fighting is some what entertaining my son but you need to be clear about what I say before you counter man! I clearly told you that I can care less about it not that I don't like it or that I know nothing about it, you are lacking knowledge on this subject.
Gina Carano was promoted way too hard just like Kimbo was, does that make them good or worthy? come on boy get your facts straight my dear friend Hehe! :)
Just because they where the Main Event does not mean the people wanted it or they deserve it! Remember the people don't choose these fight cards, The company does! :)
CHECKMATE!! Game Over! :) :) :)|||We need these people who promoted KIMBO and GINA to promote this UPCOMING WORTHY FIGHT CARD of ROGERS vs. FEDOR and all the other greats in the CARD.
