I would have to go with Fedor. He is his divisional champ without question and has been for years. While his recent fights have been discredited he has defeated anything that has been in his path for the past decade. I also believe he is one of the best well rounded MMA. He is a judo champ, the best sambo practitioner in the world, and has power in both hands. He also is one of the most intelligent fighters in the game.
I believe that P4P should first have to show divisional dominance (Fedor, Silva, GSP) then record, then it should be based on fights within the last 2-3 years.
Please limit your flaming|||I have to say Fedor. He has reigned over his division longer than anyone else, he's the linear UFC champion, he has never failed, he's incredible to watch and never has a bad performance, he beats guys at their own strengths, he fights guys much bigger than he is, and he seems to get better with every fight.
I think it's close between the top three. GSP has the best resume, but has lost to Matt Serra not too long ago. Anderson is very dominant and his display over Forrest was jaw dropping, but he fights in a weak division and has lost to very weak competition in the past.
When it's that close, you have to look at the little things, and I think Fedor edges it out for me.|||BJ Penn
Nobody has done more in more weight classes and won more ways than this guy
Fedor has never really taken a risk -
Silva won't fight the top contender in his or anyother weight class -
GSP will never change - he's the new matt hughes once someone figures out his number he will plummet down the ranks

|||There's no doubt about it... Fedor Emelianenko, no man alive has ever beaten him, He's fought and beaten one of the best strikers in MMA in his prime, in Cro-cop, the best ground guy in the world from the heavyier weight classes in Nogueira, He's beaten K1 powerhouse Mark hunt, Former UFC HW champ Mark coleman, another UFC HW champ in Tim Sylvia, He's knocked out Andrei Arlovski unconscious, Ricardo Arona, Babalu,
Everybody thinks he has 2 come to the UFC to beat a Noob, Who lost his first fight, for what??? he doesnt have to prove anything to anybody, his record speaks for itself,
That being said i would love nothing more than to see the last emperor Knock or strangle Brock Lesner unconscious just to shut the haters up.. and anyway thats even if Brock gets past Carwin, he's got his hands full there.

I've got to disagree with this, BJ penn has lost to lyoto Machida, GSP Twice, and more recently Frankie Edgar... i like BJ, i think he's up there but come on bro.. he's not the best fighter in the world atm.. i've even watched quite recent vlogs of BJ saying Fedor is the best fighter in the world.. even he knows it.
So fighting a prime Cro-cop or Big Nog 3 times isnt classed as taking a risk?? o ok then.|||

But what happened to Penn last weekend? Can he still be considered p4p #1 today?|||

This.
But I think that by "taking a risk" he meant that Fedor hasn't fought in a different weight class|||

Edgar's the only one in his weight class - and it's a descion win (Lame call IMO). Silva won't even fight Machida and Penn had GSP in a pretty good spot for portions of both fights.
I don't take Wins as the only measure of best P4P (there are lot of guys with Crazy recoreds like 40-2 are they better than Fedor?) - I take an entire package - of how he wins, his pedigree, his range of skills.
BJ has a pretty good range of win-types out there - you are never really comfortable with him anywhere no matter who you are even if you are a bigger guy.
Fedor is up there don't get me wrong but when you look at what BJ has done to what Fedor has done I just think BJ has more going for him as a fighter.
If he was conservitive and fought only his weightclass he would have only had a few tough fights like Fedor - but this guy is looking to stretch himself.
My 2c|||I think Fedor is #1 but I think Shogun is a very close #2 I honestly think he can beat everyone in LHW we all know he killed rampage, he beat Antonio 'lil' Nogueira, Kevin Randleman, Alistair Overeem(x2), Ricardo Arona, and everyone knows he beat lyoto.
He is probably the reason Anderson Silva won't come and stay up at LHW. Cause he knows he would lose.|||I agree straight record shouldn't be the top qualifier which is why mine is cleaning out your division. Does randomly jumping out of your weight class and losing make you a better fighter? It means your willing to take more risks sure, but a better fighter? Also Fedor constantly fights with a 30lbs+ disadvantage.|||gsp since it is POUND for POUND i cant pick a heavywieght when i think someone in one of the smaller weightclasses like welter is pretty close to as good|||

GSP couldn't even finish Dan Hardy. Even I could've finished Hardy.|||I prematurely voted for Jose Aldo
dudes a beast. He finishes fights. For his weight he's super strong (able to pretty much man handle the ultra powerful Brown) and He's lightening quick
he's got sick Muay Thai, has dynamite in each strike like Silva,
Black belt bjj thou hasn't used it much. He's also got the strength to help in the hairy positions on the bottom if he's ever caught|||

What do you use as your classification system for P4P just curious.|||

basically I see it as your skill and how you're taking out the competition at your own weight. So relative to the best competition it seems like he has an answer for everyone with exciting dominating fashion. He hasn't completely proven himself yet, but if he shows up against Faber then it should be fun.
so if everyone was on a level weight with proportional physical attributes I see Aldo doing his thing viciously.
as premature as it may sound, dudes impressive
