"I'm definitely interested at fighting at 205. I think Anderson would be a great fight. I'm not sure what his perspective has been the last couple of times, though. I think since the Cote fight he's taken on a different style and hasn't been as explosive, not trying to finish fights early on. I don't know if it's concerning, but it's interesting where he's coming from with that. He certainly still has that capability. Maia, Cote, he could have finished those guys if he wanted to take the risk, so I'm not sure what's going on where he doesn't want to step up and take that risk. I think he's a fantastic fighter, and if that's someone they want me to compete against I'd be all over that."
wouldnt be suprised to see DW give couture this fight. is silva still @ 205 or is he back down to 185? cant remember...
unrelated note: funny quote from Sylvester Stallone on Letterman regarding Randy:
"Someone asked me, 'You put all these tough guys, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, in a room together, who comes out?' If you walked in 10 minutes later you'd see Randy Couture sitting on top of us having a chocolate fudge sundae."
|||Handy would get KO'd by Silva's first punch. Would make a * load of money though.|||Randy didn't try to 'bring the fight to' Brandon Vera, he opted for 'fence control' and won a B.S. decision.
What in the hell would make anyone think he could bring anything but boredom to a fight with Silva (which Silva would win by flash KO imo BTW)?|||

randys one of the best trainers in the game, and he would be stupid to stand with silva for anything longer than it takes to shoot. be it repeated takedown attempts, riding him, or 'fence control' theres no doubt in my mind he would be up in silva's personal space all fight or 'bringing the fight'.
when he wants to go to the ground there wont be any flopping or butt-scooting. whether he was successful or got KO'ed, randy would be on him. silva would have to create his own space to operate.
not saying he would win by any means, but im pretty sure randy would gameplan & go after him somewhat like he did sylvia.|||

He struggled to get Vera there, ate horrendus shots FROM VERA when he attempted to do it. And when he couldn't get Vera on the ground, he settled for controll along the fence, making for a horrible fight that wasn't anything I would ever want to see again as a MMA fan.
He would get smeared by Silva imo.
Its just a bad match-up. If anything, Sonnen will tell us all we need to know about Silva fighting that type of dude. And Sonnen is much younger, and for sure at least as good of a wrestler as Randy (at this point anyways).
Its like Rashad Evans said when offered a fight with Randy recently: 'Why would I do it? I am young and in my prime, he is old and not as well regarded as he used to be. I have everything to lose in a fight like that, he has everything to gain. If I lose, I'm the guy who just lost to a 45 year old man, if I win, I just beat a 45 year old man that I should have beat anyways'.
And thats what this is all about, Randy is attempting to stay relevant by trying to call out highly regarded CURRENTLY ranked fighters.
This isn't 2003 or 2004 anymore man, this is almost 50 year old Randy that got out fought by over-the-hill lost at least 3 steps Big Nog, and (imo) lost to a busted out Brandon Vera.
Why on EARTH should the UFC make a fight like this happen? Wheres the reward for Silva at??
The match-up just makes absolutely no sense at all.|||

his perfomance vs vera doesnt change my opinion that randy would bring the fight to silva. i would hope (& think) he would come out with the same gameplan as his buddy hendo, who happened to win the first round vs silva. once again, didnt say he wouldnt get KO'ed doing it, but ill take his bullrush/riding style over another f*cking maia or leites flop-fest everytime.
and sonnen isnt gonna tell us sh*t about a fight w/couture. he doesnt have near the intangibles couture has & hasnt finished a decent fighter once his entire career. he talked his way to title shot & was helped by a weak, cleaned out division.
sure randy is trying to stay relevant, but at least hes talking big fights with dangerous opponents...
why on earth should they make this fight happen?
Snake_Eyes_ZZZ - Would make a * load of money though.
you said it. but they never said they were making it, couture just said he'd be 'all over it' if it was offered. i couldnt blame either one for taking it since silva has almost cleaned out MW & the money this fight would make. seems like a decent welcoming fight for 205 (griffin was tailor made for silva). i dont think couture would pose much threat for him, but like i said, i think couture would at least make him work for it for however long the fight went on.|||

If he couldn't bring the fight to Vera, how in the hell is he going to bring the fight to Silva? Randy is 47 years old, washed up, and struggling against other fighters that are washed up. This fight makes no sense at all.
and sonnen isnt gonna tell us sh*t about a fight w/couture. he doesnt have near the intangibles couture has & hasnt finished a decent fighter once his entire career. he talked his way to title shot & was helped by a weak, cleaned out division.
Well, he has his 'prime' years on his side, not to mention some very serious wrestling creds himself to back it up. Randy's striking is better I would say, but theres no way in hell Randy OR Sonnen want any part of that aspect in this fight anyways...so that point is moot.
sure randy is trying to stay relevant, but at least hes talking big fights with dangerous opponents...
So you say that Sonnen 'talked' his way into this fight with Silva (meant as a jab at Sonnen imo) yet old *ss Randy Couture who hasn't done anything relevant in the sport in around 3 years gets a pass for trying to do the same thing lol?
Look, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time, that doesn't mean I think its a good idea for him to strap on the Air Jordans again and challenge Kobe Bryant in the NBA currently. Same goes for Randy here, fighting Silva is beyond pointless for the UFC and even more pointless for Silva to consider this fight. Randy is a legend, but he isn't relevant in the sport of MMA at this time. Silva on the other hand represents the very peak of relevance in the sport currently. There is absolutely NO valid point to be mentioned for this fight to happen. ESPECIALLY 'money to be made'. The UFC makes money everytime they put the big name fighters out there anyways.
As a fan of the sport, I do NOT and would NOT be interested one bit in this fight. Its not that I don't like Randy, its just that I like good match-ups. And throwing a past his prime Randy Couture to the very prime and possibly the greatest MMA fighter in the world to date, Anderson Silva does not represent a good match-up in any way, shape, or form.
Gimme Shogun Vs Silva, or Belfort Vs Silva, or Machida (if they could make it happen) or even Rampage Vs Silva and at least its a fight.
You put Randy in there, and all we're going to see is Anderson embarrass a legend of the sport.|||

1.) i never said the fight made sense genius. i commented on randy calling him out.
2.) i dont give a f** if randy rode silva on the fence for the first 3 rounds if he thinks that his best way to win. i want to see silva uncomfortable. he sure as h3ll wouldnt be as comfy in there vs randy as he was with maia, leites, griffin, etc. randy wouldnt give him the space to be IMO, alot like hendo, who gave silva prob his toughest fight (or round at least) to date in the UFC.

serious wrestling credentials to back them up? no doubt, but so does randy. again, tell me which decent fighter sonnen has finished in his career? just one will do. the guy has rarely BEAT a top level fighter, let alone finish one. in a fight like this, where a serious gameplan is needed, ill take randys exp over sonnens 'prime' everytime.
So you say that Sonnen 'talked' his way into this fight with Silva (meant as a jab at Sonnen imo) yet old *ss Randy Couture who hasn't done anything relevant in the sport in around 3 years gets a pass for trying to do the same thing lol?
well you're wrong there. no jab @ sonnen. it was more a jab a other, certain HWs who seem to avoid certain opponents & talk about their legacy as the #1 in the world. or the shamrocks of the world still fighting the baronis, or tito calling out griffin, etc. randy will fight anyone. respect.
Gimme Shogun Vs Silva, or Belfort Vs Silva, or Machida (if they could make it happen) or even Rampage Vs Silva and at least its a fight.
we all know machida/silva not gonna happen. page/silva? LOL...no way page takes that fight & thats prob worse than couture/silva. at least randy would have a chance on the ground. of course belfort/silva is a great fight, when it happens.
doesnt matter as silva has said hes not changing weight.
keep trying to convince me though. never said it was gonna be a good fight or competitive one. i just said randy would bring it to silva for however long it lasted (which prob isnt that long), much like hendo did. regardless if you like how he does it, he will be up in silva personal space. he sure as hell wont be flopping or scooting or trying to pull guard, giving silva the chance to clown him...|||

You could have avoided this whole discussion by typing this one simple sentence.....genius. Disclaimers come in handy after ridiculous statements.
(It is at this time I need to make my own disclaimer in pointing out that I HATE the idea of Silva fighting Sonnen, its a terrible match-up, I'd much rather see Silva Vs Belfort here. But still, we are talking about a fighter with pretty much the same M.O. as Randy which is why I've been talking about him)
i just said randy would bring it to silva for however long it lasted (which prob isnt that long), much like hendo did.
And you don't expect the 1 dimensional Sonnen to do the very same using the very same damn tactics lol?
Seriously?? And whats the point of him 'bringing it' if it leads to him counting sheep after arriving with it lol?
And LMAO @ 'Couture would be more of a fight than Rampage' lol. Lets see, Rampage can actually stand, he can also fight on the mat (as evidenced in his fight against Hendo), his chin is a F-ing brick wall compared to anything Randy offers in this department, is still in his prime, and you don't think Rampage stands a better chance against Silva than Randy does haha?
Even a disinterested out of shape Rampage with more ring rust than a '32 Ford was dangerous against 205 title contender Rashad Evans lol, I'd say that Rampage has more than just a chance against Silva, especially if Rampage is actually motivated. Doesn't mean that I think he'd win, but he sure as hell would make it more interesting than Randy ever could.
And just because Randy is calling out certain dudes (because they're 'tuff') doesn't mean its at all a good idea he fights them. Unless we all agree that Tito calling out Fedor not long ago is grounds in which he should be allowed to fight him, or Anderson Silva calling out Frank Mir and Brock Lesnar recently is grounds by which these fights should happen too (Machida has said he'd like to fight Brock as well)??
I don't give a flying-arm bar who Randy calls out, sometimes, even legends need to STFU, and THIS is definately one of those times.|||why should i add a disclaimer? i believe the problem here is 'reading comprehension'...
And you don't expect the 1 dimensional Sonnen to do the very same using the very same damn tactics lol?
randy not great w/his hands, but hes hardly one dimensional, & hes damn sure more rounded than sonnen.
Seriously?? And whats the point of him 'bringing it' if it leads to him counting sheep after arriving with it lol?
ill take that fight (& a quick KO) over another 2-rounder-stretched-to-five anyday of the week. dont care if it last 1:30 if the fighters are going after each other. silva hasnt been in a real fight since prob hendo (who happens to be the best comparison to randy in this case).
rampage still in his prime? hardly.
